III NATIONAL WORKSHOP ON

PLANT METABOLOMICS:

FROM SAMPLE PREPARATION TO DATA ANALYSIS

February 2 - 7, 2026

Plant metabolome profiling provides a comprehensive biochemical fingerprint that reflects the physiological state of plants. Primary metabolites—such as sugars, fatty acids, amino acids, long-chain alcohols, amines, organic acids, and sterols—are universally present across species and play essential roles in growth, development, and reproduction. Complementing these, plant hormones act as key chemical signals that orchestrate developmental processes and mediate responses to environmental stimuli, including cell division, elongation, flowering, and stress adaptation. Advancing our understanding of these interconnected pathways requires robust, high-throughput analytical platforms. This workshop will focus on methodologies for analyzing plant primary metabolites and hormones, highlighting their significance in plant biology and applied research. The objective of the present workshop is to conduct a training program on Plant Metabolomics for interested users as part of the ongoing DBT-SAHAJ project, utilizing an in-house instrument, the Pegasus 4D GC x GC TOF Mass Spectrometer, and the Thermo Exactive Plus Mass Spectrometer coupled with Waters UPLC. To get the most, talks by experts in the field and hands-on sessions on extraction methods, identification of primary metabolites, hormones and data analysis are planned.

FOCUS AREAS

  • Introduction to plant primary metabolome and hormones.
  • Sample extraction & processing for GC-MS and LC-MS.
  • Metabolite identification & data analysis.
